Commemoration — My Anniversary Verse (48th, 1983)

A family poem by Mike — faithfully transcribed and preserved.

Typed transcription

Once more the Anniversary, as time goes by,
The first one oh! so distant in the bygone days,
Partners then and partners now—
How I’ve loved your fetching ways.

Why visit ancient monuments
When we ourselves are one—
To a long and happy marriage
And love, the best prize ever won.

Our Country walks, whatever land,
Must be restricted now;
We console ourselves with London—
To my city guide I bow.

A simple life we both enjoy
Looking forward to to‑morrow
We all know it never comes
So why should we have sorrow?

All those years and still you care
Do I deserve such grace?
I try is all that I can say
Though I cannot keep your pace.

Our peaceful Sunday morning jaunts
Are a highlight of my week;
We vary them as much we can
Usually finding what we seek.

The value of the goods I own
Is little — and yours too;
I envy few and still consider
I’m rich whilst I have you.

10/9/83. Mike.
